Quan Yin, the Female Buddha

Quan Yin is often referred to as the female Buddha. She was a beautiful Indian princess who gave up a life of luxuries to live in a convent in order to become a truly enlightened being. After having achieved enlightenment and the right to enter Heaven or Nirvana, legend has it that at heaven's gates Quan Yin heard the despairing cry of someone back on earth. Upon hearing that sad cry, she returned to the earthly plane, and vowed to stay there to help all those who suffer achieve the same level of enlightenment that she had, so that they too could enter Nirvana.

Quan Yin, is loved rather than feared, and has been compared to the Virgin Mary. She guides us into enlightenment, which is the ability to live in harmony and unity with the love that is, and surrendering into that love.  Her compassion and mercy is a catalyst to discover an awakened heart within us all. Quan Yin's name means "The one who hears the cries of the world”, “She who hears prayers” and “Born of the Lotus."

Years ago I didn’t know who she was, and I found myself lost in time photographing a stone carved statue of her face. I fell in love with the serenity she emanates. After learning who she is, I began bringing her into my prayers as my Divine mother figure. With honor, I printed out the photograph and it hangs in my home. I feel it brings her peaceful presence to the room with her meditative, enlightened expression. In my sound healing work, I pray before every session to Quan Yin. I thank her for the gift to be of service to humanity, to lovingly guide the session with her compassion, and that her love is felt through the sound healing instruments.
